“Stop and help!, que o lixo non chegue ao mar” es un proyecto impulsado por el Colegio Oficial de Biólogos de Galicia y forma parte del programa “O teu Xacobeo” de la Xunta. Esta iniciativa ha consistido en convertir basura marina en arte con la finalidad de concienciar sobre esta problemática.
El objetivo principal del proyecto se centra en fomentar la conservación del patrimonio natural con una serie de jornadas de limpieza de basura marina en distintas playas de varios municipios atravesados por el Camino Portugués. Cerca de 200 voluntarios han participado en las diferentes actuaciones, en las que se han retirado más de 310 kg de basura. Entre los objetos recogidos se encuentran utensilios relacionados con el ejercicio de las actividades económicas marinas, restos de cabos, colillas, tapones, botellas y otros envoltorios de plástico.
Esta jornada ha finalizado con la presentación de una obra de arte dirigida por Carme Hermo en colaboración con Antón Sobral y realizada por el alumnado de 1º de Bachillerato de Artes del IES Frei Martín Sarmiendo (Pontevedra, Galicia) con los residuos recogidos durante las distintas jornadas de limpieza.
La pieza se titula “Mundo Lixo” y quedará expuesta en el Centro de Visitantes do Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia, en el edificio Cambón con el objetivo de concienciar sobre la lucha contra la basura marina, que representa graves consecuencias para el medio ambiente.
El Ministerio de Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico del Gobierno de España, en su protección del medio marino a través de estrategias marinas, aborda el tema de las basuras marinas. En esta iniciativa, han elaborado tanto un manual, como un decálogo de buenas prácticas para concienciar a la población de la importancia de cuidar mares y océanos y educar a generaciones futuras en este cuidado.

MARINE LITTER AS AN ART OBJECT
“Stop and help, que o lixo non chegue ao mar” is a project promoted by the Official Association of Biologists of Galicia and is part of the program “O teu Xacobeo” of the Xunta de Galicia. This initiative has consisted of turning marine garbage into art with the aim of raising awareness about this problem.
The main objective of the project focuses on promoting the conservation of the natural heritage with a series of marine litter clean-up days on different beaches in several municipalities crossed by the Portuguese Way. Nearly 200 volunteers have participated in the different actions, in which more than 310 kg of garbage have been removed. Among the objects collected were utensils related to the exercise of marine economic activities, remains of ropes, cigarette butts, caps, bottles and other plastic wrappings.
This day ended with the presentation of a work of art directed by Carme Hermo in collaboration with Antón Sobral and created by the students of the 1st year of the Bachillerato de Artes of the IES Frei Martín Sarmiendo (Pontevedra, Galicia) with the waste collected during the different clean-up days.
The piece is entitled “Mundo Lixo” and will be exhibited at the Centro de Visitantes do Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia, in the Cambón building with the aim of raising awareness about the fight against marine litter, which has serious consequences for the environment.
