Hoy, 18 de abril, se celebra el Día Internacional de los Monumentos y Sitios. Esta efeméride fue impulsada por el Consejo Internacional de Monumentos y Sitios (ICOMOS) y aprobada por la UNESCO en 1983.
Este Día Internacional pretende sensibilizar y dar a conocer toda la riqueza que encierra la humanidad en cuestión de patrimonio histórico, así como fomentar la conservación y protección de los mismos.
El lema de este año 2024 es Patrimonio resiliente ante desastres y conflictos: preparación, respuesta y recuperación.
A su vez, la UNESCO defiende la necesidad de respetar los símbolos, ya que garantizan la libertad de expresión y culturar de las sociedades y llama a los distintos Estados y organizaciones a preservarlos.
La Convención del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO establece que la desaparición, daño o deterioro de un bien cultural, puede llegar a generar un empobrecimiento del patrimonio en todos los pueblos del mundo.
Los monumentos y sitios son, no solamente símbolos de belleza, sino de identidad cultural de una comunidad.

Today, April 18, is the International Day for Monuments and Sites. This event was promoted by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and approved by UNESCO in 1983.
